Customer is seeking a Technical writer with strong emphasis and focus on IT Government policy creation. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating technical documents and manuals, explaining complex information in a clear and concise manner, and working with IT professionals to ensure completeness and accuracy of planning, past-performance, and procedural documentation. Responsible for creation and maintenance of IT documentation. Translates technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences. Works with Development, Quality Assurance and Technical Support to produce a wide variety of technical publications including instructional materials, technical manuals, product documentation and the like for use by both the IT and business community. Interviews subject matter experts and technical staff to collect information, prepare written text, and coordinate layout and material organization. Researches information such as drawings, design reports, equipment and test specifications to fill any gaps. Reviews and edits documentation including design documents, programmer notes and system overviews. The technical policy writer will compose, maintain and clarify the policies and procedures. Policy writer will introduce policies internally and externally. Policy writer often ensure the implementation of new and revised policies and guidelines. Responsibilities may include maintenance of internal documentation library and providing and/or coordinating special documentation services as required.

Skills Required:

Candidate must be: -Able to collect document input from several sources including team managers and technical staff -Able to summarize input and write in explanatory and procedural styles for multiple audiences -Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio) and Adobe Acrobat software -Able to create charts, graphs, and other visual aids; incorporating graphics into documents -Written policy must be simple and clear so that it can be easily understood -Collaborate with end users -Strong communication skills Experience writing documentation and procedural materials for multiple audiences Experience working with IT policies, legal policies and/or IT related topics Strong attention to detail Develop comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards Develop and maintain detailed databases of appropriate reference materials, including research and policy specifications Independently gather information from subject matter experts to develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation maintain information architecture templates that uphold organizational and legal standards Handle multiple projects simultaneously, with an understanding for prioritization Good communication and coordination skills to determine needs of users such as support specialists, executive management and software developers for technical documentation Proficiency in MS Office and Adobe products

Skills Preferred:

Knowledgeable in use of Microsoft SharePoint as a document collaboration tool • Project management skills or experience are a plus

Experience Required:
10+ years of technical policy writing experience with a focus on IT government policy creation.

Experience Preferred:

10+ years of technical writing experience with working understanding of IT terminology. Prior technical or project manager level experience with IT infrastructure, networking, security, or application development

Education Required:
Bachelor’s degree 10+ years of exp

-This will be a long-term contract budgeted for 1 year
-This position COULD transition to the merit system This will be evaluated towards the end of FY20.
-Candidate will report and perform job duties for several different managers and directors
-Candidate will work full time, onsite. NO remote work will be considered.
